Rebekah Karel, LMSW

Child and Adolescent Clinical Director

Rebekah is a therapist specializing in child and family therapy. She enjoys working with children ages 3 to 13 and cater her approach depending on the age of the child. Some of the children she works with have been through really difficult and painful traumas, and others have experienced great loss. Some kids are struggling to express themselves or with regulating their emotions, and others are struggling with behavior challenges at school or home. She also has a passion for helping overwhelmed, stressed, and lost parents find ways of reconnecting with their children. She often will incorporate caregivers into the treatment process as so much of the healing begins at home.

In addition to her masters of clinical social work, she is also a registered play therapist (RPT). With younger children, she will often use games, art, play, worksheets, books, therapeutic storytelling, and a variety of other ways to help process what the child is going through. Therapeutic play helps the child express, regulate, and label their emotions in a child-centered way. Children don’t always have the words to express what they are going through and she works to help them put words to their experiences.

With pre-teens, she finds that there can be a variety of ways to navigate the therapeutic relationship and she is intentional about seeing what each individual teen finds helpful.

In the past, she has served as a school social worker which has provided her with unique expertise in engaging with children with ADHD, anxiety, learning difficulties, bullying, and other social-emotional concerns. She enjoys partnering with schools and parents to figure out solutions to school difficulties.

If you or your child are seeking a faith-centered approach she is happy to incorporate Christian beliefs into therapy if that is something your family is looking for, however she works with children and families of all backgrounds and faith beliefs.

Ultimately, Rebekah wants counseling to be a fun and enjoyable experience for your child. She wants every child who walks through her door to look forward to coming back. It is her hope that you will find her to be an authentic, warm person with a sense of humor and fun. She would be honored to walk alongside you!
